Your Guide to a Smooth Brazilian Wax Experience: Prep Tips for Your First Wax

You’ve decided to take the plunge and book your first Brazilian wax. Congratulations! While it might seem daunting, with the right preparation, your experience can be surprisingly smooth and comfortable. This guide will walk you through essential tips to ensure you have a positive first-time wax.

1. Timing is Everything:

  • Consider the timing of your cycle: Waxing during the week following your period is often less painful due to lower hormone levels.
  • Waxing during your cycle: If you’re unable to schedule around your cycle – that’s okay. You can still be waxed. You will just need to wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup during your appointment.
  • Waxing for an event or vacation: If you want to be smooth for that cruise you’ll really want to get waxed at least twice before (so 2 months before, 1 wax per month) – minimum would be 3 days before the event or vacation. The minimum of 3 days is to ensure your skin has had time to heal.

2. Prep Your Skin:

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the area a day or two before your appointment. This helps remove dead skin cells and minimizes the risk of ingrown hairs.
  • You don’t need to trim or shave before: There is no need to trim or shave before your appointment. You risk trimming the hair too short. Shaving can cause unnecessary skin irritation and cause the hair to be too short for waxing.
  • Shower before your wax appointment: if your scheduling doesn’t allow, we have intimate wipes available in our restroom.

3. Hydration is Key:

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydration can help to minimize discomfort and promote faster healing.
  • Moisturize: Moisturizing the skin daily up to the day of your appointment will allow the hair to be removed more easily. You should also exfoliate minimum the day/night before your appointment.

4. What to Wear:

  • Choose comfortable clothing: Wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing to your appointment. Avoid tight-fitting pants or underwear that might rub against the waxed area.
  • Choose clothing that is easy to get in and out of: For ease at your appointment it is recommended to wear clothing that is easy to get in and out of. Dresses or loose-fitting pants are a good choice. Shoes that are easy to slip off and on are also a good recommendation.

5. Communication is Crucial:

  • Be open and honest with your esthetician: Discuss any concerns or sensitivities you have. I am here to ensure your comfort and answer any questions you may have.

6. Aftercare is Important:

  • Follow aftercare instructions carefully: I will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your skin after the wax. Adhere to these guidelines to minimize irritation and promote healing.

7. Relax and Breathe:

  • Take a deep breath: It’s okay to feel a little nervous!

Like many things in life, the anticipation can sometimes be greater than the actual experience. While it’s natural to hear stories from friends, remember that everyone’s experience is unique. Don’t let dramatic movie scenes or exaggerated accounts create unnecessary anxiety. We want your first (and every) waxing experience to be positive and comfortable!
