Congrats on taking the plunge and getting a Brazilian wax! Now it’s time to focus on proper aftercare to ensure a smooth and irritation-free recovery. Here’s what to avoid to protect your freshly waxed skin:

1. Tight Clothing:
- The Issue: Tight clothing can rub against the waxed area, causing friction and irritation. This can lead to redness, itching, and even ingrown hairs.
- The Solution: Opt for loose-fitting, breathable fabrics like cotton underwear and flowy pants for the first 24-48 hours after your wax.
2. Strenuous Exercise:
- The Issue: Sweating can trap bacteria and irritate the freshly waxed skin.
- The Solution: Avoid intense workouts like hot yoga or spin class for at least 24 hours after your wax. Opt for low-impact activities like walking or swimming.
3. Hot Showers and Baths:
- The Issue: Hot water can open pores and increase the risk of irritation and infection.
- The Solution: Take lukewarm showers and avoid hot tubs or saunas for 24-48 hours after your wax.
4. Sun Exposure:
- The Issue: Sun exposure can increase the risk of pigmentation and irritation.
- The Solution: Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to the waxed area before sun exposure. Wear protective clothing like a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.
5. Touching the Area:
- The Issue: Touching the waxed area can introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.
- The Solution: Avoid touching the area as much as possible. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching the waxed area.
6. Applying Harsh Products:
- The Issue: Avoid using harsh soaps, perfumes, and lotions on the waxed area. These products can irritate the skin and cause discomfort.
- The Solution: Opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers specifically designed for sensitive skin. I carry products in my studio specifically for waxing aftercare. I will make recommendations for you during your appointment.
7. Dry Shaving:
- The Issue: Dry shaving can irritate the skin and increase the risk of ingrown hairs.
- The Solution: Preferably you won’t shave in between waxes. However, if you must shave between waxes, use a sharp razor and shaving cream.
Staying on a regular schedule matters as much as good aftercare, so here’s when to schedule your next wax for the smoothest results.
